What's a VHIS plan?
The Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) was introduced in 2019 by the Hong Kong Food & Health Bureau to offer accessible healthcare through affordable health insurance plans. The main goal of VHIS plans is to direct people towards the private sector in order to alleviate pressure on public hospitals. Because of high prices in the private sector, Hongkongers tend to go in the public sector, creating extremely high waiting times. With affordable insurance, the government wants to incentivize more people to go private.
