Winter holidays are coming and for some of us, this may mean skiing or snowboarding. But before enjoying the mountain views and going down the slopes, it is important to know whether accidents or injuries are covered by your health insurance plan.
In general, high-risk activities and extreme sports are excluded from standard medical insurance plans and you may need to purchase sport-specific insurance.

Off-piste skiing, or any other winter sports activity practiced off-piste without an instructor with the appropriate qualifications is not covered. | |
Professional sports or hazardous activities such as winter sports are excluded by this insurer. | |
This insurer does not cover the practice of certain mountain sports such as skiing off marked slopes open to the public. However, any practice of these sports, even as an initiation, is covered if supervised by a professional. | |
Evacuation costs do not include mountain rescue costs, unless rescue is undertaken at recognized ski resorts. |
